Frances Codd Slusarz
Fran Slusarz has more than 15 years’ experience as an employment lawyer and commercial litigator. She has extensive experience litigating breaches of employment agreements, noncompetes, misappropriation of trade claims, and workplace discrimination cases in the state and federal courts of Connecticut and New York. Fran has conducted trials and hearings nation-wide, in courts and administrative agencies. Often the best outcome is to resolve the matter before going to court, and Fran’s fierce advocacy for her clients maximizes the chances for that to happen.
Fran’s interest in employment law started early. Her father became permanently disabled from multiple sclerosis when she was 5 years old. Soon after, her 40-something mom went back to school to get her nursing degree. From grade school to college, Fran was part of lively dinner table discussions with her parents and seven siblings about workplace challenges for people with disabilities, mothers, and women over the age of 40.
Fran worked in human resources at GE Capital Services for several years before finally accepting that she really only enjoyed the law part of human resources. Taking a page from her mother’s book, she attended law school with two children and graduated from New York University School of Law in 2002. (Unlike her mother, she had a third child after finishing school.) In law school, Fran delivered an academic paper at New York University’s 55th Annual Conference on Labor and Employment Law, entitled Workplace Stress Claims Resulting from September 11th. 18 Labor Lawyer 137 (2002)
In 2019, Fran was appointed to the editorial board of Litigation News, published by the American Bar Association Section of Litigation. She currently serves as Treasurer to the Women in the Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association.
Fran was born and raised in Staten Island, New York, and graduated from Hunter College in 1993. She moved to Connecticut in 1994, when she married her husband, John, a Lieutenant in the Greenwich Police Department. Fran and her family live in Danbury with two dogs and a grandcat. Her children are now 24, 22, and 15 years old. She is especially proud that her oldest is a US Navy veteran.
